MSN Plans on Launching a Classified Ad Website

The new service code name is Fremont, but it's final name is suppose to be TBA. It allows you to buy, sell or swap things with friends, family and the public. Microsoft also plans to index each item and add it to the search results of their search engine, MSN. If you ask me it's just another way for spammers to mess with their search results, but can their search engine get any worse than it is now? You can sign up now at http://fremont.live.com/, but you need a @microsoft.com email address for verification though.

Firefox 1.5 was recently relaesed, Firefox claims that it has better security, improved pop-up blocking and faster browsing. It features all new automatic updates, so that you have the latest security and feature updates for Firefox. Firefox automatically downloads these updates in the background and when done downloading it prompts you, so that you can install the update. They also added "Live Bookmarks", which allows you to stay up to date with your favorite web sites.

Gmail now offers antivirus protection. Each time you send or receive attachments, Gmail automatically scans them for viruses. If a virus is found in an attachment you have received, Gmail will attempt to remove it or clean the file, so you can still access the attachment, but if it can't be cleaned or removed, you won't be able to download it. On the other hand, if you are trying to send a email with a attachment that has a virus you won't be able to send the message until you remove the attachment or virus.

AOL going to be sold soon?

Google and Comcast partnered together trying to buy a minority stake in Time Warner's America Online. AOL, who is under major pressure, has previously been talking to Microsoft over a possible combination of AOL with the MSN online service. This would be a major blow to Google because AOL uses both Google ads and search results on their search engine. AOL receives 8% of internet searches.

Later on Yahoo decided to consider buying a stake in America Online, joining Google/Comcast and Microsoft. Microsoft needs that 8% that goes to Google now, so that they start to make their search engine popular. Microsoft also has it's own Pay Per Click program coming out soon, so AOL is needed if they want to move forward in the search engine war.

Yahoo! is Working Hard?

Yahoo launched an audio search, which is still being testing. Results don't look to bad right now, but still needs a little more work done on it, but you can't say much because they are still testing out the search results. Yahoo bought out Konfabulator software. Yahoo plans on giving Konfabulator software away for free. They were charging 20 dollars for the software.

Yahoo also is launching an ad network for small web publishers. This will allow their PPC (Pay Per Click) search engine to gain ground against Google's PPC search engine. There was a major update to the search results. It seems that they are using on-site factors more they were. Such as the title tag and header tag. Maybe even the Meta tags, but I haven't looked at that to hard.Mozilla is now a corporation.

The Mozilla Foundation runs the FireFox browser which is gaining popularity very fast, mostly tech people use it, but that's slowly changing. They created a corporate to support its money making activities. Most of the people who worked for the Mozilla Foundation will now become employees at the corporation. Mozilla claims that FireFox will remain free and open-source, however some wonder about that.

I'm back!

Well, I got back a few days ago, I would have posted sooner, but had a lot of work that had to be done and didn't get back when I expected to. We decided to stay a little longer. The UK was cool, but I like it here in USA much better! Really I didn't think it was fun as it could have been, but my girl keep on saying "Let's go shop", is there a girl in the world that don't shopping?

MSN search engine updated while I was gone around the 22nd of june and at the same time Yahoo! did the same thing. It looks like MSN is using on-page factors much more then before. And Yahoo!, well, I am still looking at it. MSN also started local search, which looks like shit, I wouldn't use it, maybe a 14 teen year old could show them how!?!?

Google plans on starting a payment processing service. It will be interesting to see how this affects PayPal and what they plan on doing to fight Google. Google could get large numbers of webmasters to sign-up with little effort. A lot of webmasters already use Google for Adwords and Adsense.

Happy 4TH of July!

Google's Has a Secret Evaluation Lab?

Eval.google.com (Which stands for Passive Evaluation.) is a testing lab for Google search engine. The testing lab collects feedback and quality ratings from human editors, which are then passed onto Google engineers. The editors cannot directly fine tune, tweak, filter, or otherwise modify the search results and is supposed to still be in testing period. This could be testing for TrustRank that Google Trademarked a while back.

Other things going on...

Scripps said it would pay $525 million in cash for 100 percent of Shopzilla, which is a shopping search engine. Shareholders of Shopzilla would get Shopzilla's net working capital at the time of closing, estimated at around $35 million. The bought out is expected to be completed early in the third quarter of this year.

Espotting/FindWhat is going to be rebrand to Miva. The Company's ticker symbol will be changed to NASDAQ: MIVA. They expect the re-branding to be complete by the end of June 2005.

Little brother back home...

My little brother came back home from serving in the Army in Iraq yesterday. We didn't know he was coming home, but he wanted to surprise us all, so he didn't tell us. I glad to see him, he's got big and looks like he's in good shape, he no longer the tiny brother I use to know. It was probably the best thing that's happen to him, although I wish he wouldn't had to see some of the things in war.

Before enlisting in the Army he was getting into some trouble and seemed like he was never going to learn from it. Since I was in the Army and really grew up because of it, I told him he should join and see if he could learn to stay out of trouble. But I never knew he would be sent to Iraq (He joined before 9/11/2001), so I always felt bad and thought if he died it would be caused by me telling him to join. In 2003 he was sent to Iraq and mostly he was in northern Iraq, but was all over the place.

Am I the only one upset with all this blog Spam? Recently I was searching for information on England (I will be going there in a few weeks.) and couldn't find anything useful, so I went down to page four of the search results and found nothing but blogs that were spamming the search engines. There were nothing but these blogs for at least the next six web pages of the search results. Why can't Google or Yahoo! with all that money for once get it right?

Google Cached Page and PageRank Down

Early today Google's cached page was down, anytime you went to look at a web site's cached it would not appear and showed a 500 server error . You will now be able to see the cached because it seems to have been fixed. This also happened a couple months ago. The Page Rank has also been down for a while, but still isn't up. So for any webmaster out there freaking out over this can now relax because your web site is not banned, it's because Google server is down. Perhaps Google is just playing with the webmasters or maybe not?

Working on Artificial Life Robot

Me and my friend, which he graduate in computer science, have been working with a few different artificial Life robots. Our goal is to make them act more like a human when talking and moving. I thought you may be interested in messing with it and see for your self how far they have come and how real they can be and not to forget, they may become part of all of our lifes on a daily basis some day. A little scary, don't you think?

This software that we have come to know as a robot, is the next generation intelligent interactive online robot. The Artificial Life Robot's job is to have natural conversations between a human and it. The idea of Mike, the robot, is to combine our research in natural language learning and generation with some knowledge acquiring abilities and produce a program, which talks like a human and moderately intelligent.

It will learn as it talks to you, just like a baby would learn by talking with humans. Only thing is, it picks up much faster then a baby and already has data programmed into the program. It has been trained in hundreds of conversations with humans and computers through the Internet. Ask it anything you like or just talk to it and see what it says, chances are it will surprise you with the way it talks to you, as if it was a human.

BBC will allow web developers access to its content

The England based news company BBC will now allow web developers, webmasters and designers outside of the BBC company access to it's content so that they can add it to their own web site or program. The BBC has a large amount of articles, news, etc, which will be nice for any webmaster that has a type of web site that can use it.

Speaking of England, me, my girlfriend and friends are going to visit England for a week in June on the 17th. We are going to London, I heard it was a nice place to visit, so I guess that's where we will go. I really don't like the idea of leaving the United states, but my friend is from there and he said he would show us around. We have been planing on this for over two years, but never put a date on when to go. I like to go see the Tower of London and also visit a few American WW2 memorials, since my grandpa served in WW2 and pay respect.

I finally got a blue iPod mini and this thing is cool. I wasn't going to get it because it cost $199 and I could get a Xbox or PS2 for that price, not that I need one, I already have both of them. I checked out some of the music you can get with the iPod and was glad to see they have some of the latest music available on there, I thought they wouldn't have much though.

Fishished my Degree in PERL

I have fishished my degree in PERL and feels great! :) It didn't take so long because when I was going to collage before, I fishished most of what was needed to get my degree in PERL and I already knew most of PERL programming. It will help if I ever decide to work at a programming job place again, which is what I was doing before I left and started as a full time webmaster.

Google announced that they will lower the price for their recently acquired Urchin On Demand, a web analytics product, a few days ago, which is great because I am interested in buying it soon and some of the readers likely use it as well. The monthly subscription to Urchin on Demand has been reduced by 60% to 199 dollars per month. Google acquired Urchin around a month ago. It was expcted that Google would cut the price down because that's what they have done with past products and services to gain more market share.
Google Trade Marked a new ranking factor called Trust Rank, which may start to be used in the algorithm. If you like to read all about it please visit TrustRank Algorithm. It's some what like Google Page Rank, but isn't fully automated. Instead it will use human editors to decide which web site ranks the highest in the new factor. Google has decided to do because all the Spam that's starting to show up a lot in Google search results.

Quote from Stanford - Web spam pages use various techniques to achieve higher-than-deserved rankings in a search engine's results. While human experts can identify spam, it is too expensive to manually evaluate a large number of pages. Instead, we propose techniques to semi-automatically separate reputable, good pages from spam. We first select a small set of seed pages to be evaluated by an expert. Once we manually identify the reputable seed pages, we use the link structure of the web to discover other pages that are likely to be good.
Trust Rank does seem like a good factor that can be better controlled and it will be easier to eliminate web sites that use Spam methods.

I Quit My Job!

Well, I have quit my job and decided to go full time as a webmaster. Google Adsense is bringing enough money to get by each month, in fact, my web site matched the income I had made from my job a few months ago and now, I am making about 300 more dollars than that. I know Adsense is not a guaranteed income and it could drop at any day, but I saved some of the money that I made from it and would be OK if it drop for a few months. I also found a few another ways to bring in the money, so I don't have to relie on Google Adsense so much.

The nice thing about all of this, is that I won't have to work all the time and can have a life once again. I do feel a little bad about leaving my job because I didn't work for them for even two months and I am sure they won't reccomened me to any another company, so I hope I don't need a job any time soon. Because of not working anymore, I hope to have more time to post here at the blog and update it more often. Wish me luck! :)

Wow...

Well, I got a car, it's a 2005 Acura TL. I have been wanting Surround Sound and XM Satellite Radio in my car for a while now, the Acura TL has all those features. I got a good deal (At least I think I did.) on the car, I only had to pay 28,000 dollars.

I decided to give Google Adsense a try and the results were not to bad. I've only been in AdSense for about six days. Since I already had a good revenue stream from my web site, I was worried about making this change. So I tried it on a few pages, web pages that don't bring in the most traffic, but enough to see how it would go. The next morning I woke up and seen that I made 30 dollars already from it, so I decided to put Adsense on the rest my web site and the next day I had already made 100 dollars.

Birthday Number 24

I am now 24 years old and I had to work on that day. What a life I have. After having a few interviews with a six bosses, I picked one. I can't name it because I don't want to get fired, but they are a big company and are showing that by pay me big money. I won't be close to home as I use to be at my old job, but the money is good. I also will have more time for building my web sites.

By the way, I sold three of my web sites for 6,000 dollars and that money goes for my new car. I haven't had a new one since I was 18 years old, so it's about time to get a new one. I decided to create a gaming site. The site will have Checkers, Chess, Go Fish and about 50 other games.

I love MR. Bush

Our great president stood up for our great country against those jerks in Germany, France and Russia by deciding to go to war with or without them. And I just don't understand why all these people hate him. After 9/11/01 everyone wanted him to do something about the terrorist and he does and guess what? People get mad over it and say we should have waited and that it was the wrong thing to do.

But think of this for a second. If we would have entered in WW2 before Japan attacked us, we would have never lost so many men, ships and aircraft over it. If we decided to wait after 9/11/01 we would have got attacked again and it would have sent the wrong message to the terrorist by not invading Iraq and Afghanistan.

Good Luck James

My friend James decided to end his life and get married. :) No, really, it was great. We had a party the night before he got married and there was free beer, dancers and food. I haven't had so many boobs in my face since I was 19 years old. By the way, that's betwaen me and you, don't tell my girlfriend. :)

The wedding was packed, both my friend and his wife have large familys. That part sucked because I hate being around a lot of people all at once.
